Arts and Crafts, just like Handwriting was not given enough consideration in the past. The syllabus of the Teachers’ Training Colleges did not lay enough emphasis on the subject, leaving the students and teachers with little or no knowledge of the subject; hence making it a problem to the teachers of Primary Schools.

The new impetus of this subject as seen in the current Primary Schools curriculum has therefore inspired the publishing of this book. It is our dream that the book shall help both teachers and pupils to learn Creative Arts, Crafts and Culture without difficulty. In brief, the book was conceived to assist those teachers who were not fortunate to acquire enough skills in a classroom but are currently answering the call to help teach Nigerian Children. This book will guide them in providing meaningful Cultural, Creative Arts and Crafts activities for pupils of Primary 4.

An advance study of the subject matter of each unit will help teachers to understand the exercises and pass it down to the pupils with ease. Pupils should source for the relevant materials, relevant references and make necessary consultation, thus enhancing their maximum participation. It is advised that this book should be used side by side with those on General knowledge and Health Education in order to develop role plays that will make pupils have a better understanding of the book.

Each topic in the book contains general and specific objectives, brief comments on the illustrations and key questions that will guide you develop the topic.

At the end of some units, there are some evaluation exercises for pupils to practise what they have learnt. The book has been divided into units and the units grouped into the corresponding competences. Each unit has a general objective. They are presented in a way that allow you to select suitable evaluation activities. They may take any of the following forms: written or oral questions, practical activities for observations and drawings.
