Foundations of Sci. & Tech for Basic Educ Book 1

An educational survey revealed that the ratio of students that take to the study of science in secondary and tertiary institutions is low compared with commercial and Art studies. One of the reasons given for this is the attitude of pupils right from primary schools that science is a difficult discipline, hence they develop resentment from the beginning. Knowing that science and technology education is instrumental to the growth and development of any nation, there is the need to re-orientate the children populace in the public and private schools and develop their interest towards science and technology education early enough to enhance the future development of our nation.

This quest gave birth to the “Foundations of Basic Science and Technology series” Books 1 – 6. Foundations of Basic Science and Technology Book 3 is simple so that pupils can study on their own, detailed so that teachers can get additional information that will enhance their teaching, direct so that parents can assist their children to practice at home. Also a system of evaluation and activities were incorporated to make learning more interesting to the pupils.

The content of the book is based on the New Basic Education Science Curriculum modules which are divided into teaching units to ease the work of the classroom teachers and this make the process of teaching and learning easy and effective. Teaching aids and illustrations used are such common and can easily be accessed.

I therefore implore parents to get this book for their children and assist them where necessary to provide materials as may be needed for the good use of the book. Also teachers should endeavour to work with the book and give necessary guide to the pupils. The target group, who are the pupils should read and do all the assignments and home work as may be given by the teacher. These joint effort will undoubtedly achieve the objective of this book.
